People often ask me how many houses they should see before we are ready to write an offer. The reality is this can vary a little bit for everyone, but most people need to see about 10 houses before they’re ready to make a decision.
Sometimes this is over a few days and other times it is over a longer period of time. You want to really have your head in that mindset of what you are looking for when you are in the house shopping mode. Once you have that going on, you to see maybe five or 10 houses. This can be a little bit tricky right now because we have low inventory and if you’re super dialed in to what your requirements are, I have people that see just one house and it is the perfect house and they know that it’s the perfect house and that’s okay too. But for the most part people want to see five or ten.
When you’re shopping you really want to think about the next five years of your life. I know it’s really tempting when you’re coming to the western suburbs that you want to buy a house that’s going to last you forever. You’re trying to do a forever house kind of thing. But as humans our brains can’t really function that far in the future! You really don’t know what your needs are gonna be in 15 to 20 years. There’s a lot of things that can change there. The key is to really make sure that the house fits you for the next five years and pick one that you like. And seeing one to 10 will probably do it for you.
